about

This song is about LIFE. It's about ART. It's about the SYMBOLIC EXPRESSION OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT.

Writing song descriptions is hard. Impossible. This is a dumb way to start a song description, for example. Maybe I shouldn't do it at all. Seems like all the cool kids have an artist bio that just says "Genres are for wimps" and their song descriptions just say "new one" or something like that. Am I uncool? That's a stupid thing to ask. Cool artists don't ask if they're cool. They just make music they love and let people interpret it how they want. Why am I even releasing this? I'm probably too old to be releasing music anyway. Too old and too weird.

Sorry, let's try again. Sorry. Here's the basic premise of the song:

*Adaptation (2001)* is a movie directed by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman. The movie is nominally about adapting the book *The Orchid Thief*, by Susan Orlean, but is focused primarily on Kaufman's experience making the movie itself. In that sense, the movie *Adaptation (2001)* is best understood as a movie about making the movie *Adaptation (2001)*. *Adaptation (2024)* is a song created by Evoke nominally about adapting the movie *Adaptation (2001)*, but is focused primarily on Evoke's experience making the song itself. In that sense, *Adaptation (2024)* is a song best understood as a song about making the song *Adaptation (2024)*.

That's probably too dry. And confusing. Did you have to read it multiple times? Also it kinda spoils the movie *Adaptation (2001)*. What if you wanted to see that movie? Now you'd start the movie knowing the premise. When I watched it I didn't know the premise. My song is probably not worth that. Although maybe you wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't told you about it. Is it worth it to promote a piece of art if promoting it might ruin it? It's still a good movie. You should watch it. You don't have to listen to my song. Just go watch the movie.

Okay, that was bad. Note to self: remember to delete that part above. You should start with something more engaging. This song is more impactful than just being about your dumb insecurities.

This song is about cars. Fast cars and guns. It's a bombastic romp through a twisting and evolving narrative, centered around the effortless vocal stylings and dynamic productions of one **ALDEN GROVES**, the mastermind behind albums like *FOOL // savior* (2019) and the creator of BOUNDARY PUSHING masterpieces like *Kiss Kiss Bang Bang*, released in November of last year. Evoke is going to be huge. Really huge. You're going to see the name topping charts on Billboard, and on LED billboards in big cities. Every Evoke song is self produced and performed, mixed, and mastered by Alden Groves, who also happens to be an accomplished Ableton Live instructor and part time model. A good dancer too, with a killer jawline.

You need to listen to this song. Now. Your new life begins today.

lyrics

“I find myself with an ungovernable impulse to indulge in musical composition and I….more on that later Mickey”

This song is self indulgent
Like Kaufman’s Adaptation
Ramp up the action and I promise you’ll maintain engagement
It’s raining bullet casings

This song is solipsistic
I’m shot from every angle
You hear the echoes as the lead goes through the Winnebago
Just do your best to stay low

It’s funny because I don’t think probably most people—especially like younger people—have seen this movie, so I expect this is not a reference that anybody is going to get. Go watch—it’s a good film. I recommend it

I’ve never been afraid enough
So I’ve never been cautious
And I’ve never been righteous
And I’ve never been wrongful
But I feel like I failed you
So I feel like a failure
All the dreams and the aspirations of people that wanted me greater

Now I’m in a tailspin
Spitting on a track with a beat
From a movie that I saw last week
This is real time writing so I mean what I speak
Which is nothing worth anything
Rinse and repeat
It’s a god damn miracle I’m still on my feet
And I’m looking for a miracle to make life meaningful
It’s easy if you see the world in two discrete factions

(Is that condescending?)

What do y’all mean with your actions?
What do y’all mean by passion?
What do y’all mean that you’ll never work a day in a life if you find it attractive?
You gotta know that’s batshit crazy
Fuck you. Pay me
I just wanna lie in the daisies
Now I’ve gotta try to behave like

Who the fuck am I to say the kinda person I became when I was saved from death?
And I would never claim to regret that
But now I got time to reflect on
Who the fuck are you to trust the person you become when you have nothing left?

(What do I even mean by that? Ugh…Start over. Start it over.)

(Okay that was nothing. Let’s scrap it and try something else.)

Don’t kill the pacing
I just wanna watch a car explode
Sink into the swamp
Four thousand bullets spray from every hole
Let it go
In this moment please let me indulge
Posing for the cameras with my hands around the villain’s throat

In slow motion kill a cobra with my pinky toes
Jump over a chasm that’s too perilous to fathom but it’s gorgeous
Like porcelain descending an infinite slope
Shivers though it isn’t cold
Chills the witness to the bone

I wish that I could picture more
But instead I’m sitting so I have the funds to sit some more
Pissing contests propagate and escalate to pissing wars
Tell me it’s a chrysalis for different shit worth living for

Nope

Find a different rube to kick the marble
On to bigger fools with bigger dues and different jargon
Knit a crew of nitwits all enamored with the bigwigs shilling bitcoin to the shitlords in the riptide of the rip-off artists

Okay…and…yeah. Cool. I think that—I think that works actually.
